Zambia government backs down on mandatory HIV tests for all Zambian citizens

Last week the Zambian President Edgar Lungu announced that the Zambian government would conduct mandatory HIV testing for all citizens adding that if anyone visited any medical facility irrespective of the ailment involved, they would be subjected to a mandatory HIV test.
 
This however led to a furious uproar from the public and interested parties as it would be in breach of Human rights to test anyone unless if they were willing to do so. Under public pressure from protests, the Zambian government has however backed down from mandatory HIV testing, saying that testing will only be done with the full consent of the patient as expected by global standards and medical ethics.
